Venues of Excellence excels in its membership of unique venues, and from 1st February until 31st March, Birmingham venue Millennium Point will play host to Luke Jerram’s Gaia.
Mandy Jennings, CEO of Venues of Excellence said: “We pride ourselves in the unusual, unique and truly amazing spaces we have within our collection, and to have the Gaia installation in one of our member venues is fabulous. Millennium Point is an award-winning contemporary venue in Birmingham city centre and creates a unique backdrop for a host of events. To host the Gaia as part of its tour of the UK is a wonderful opportunity for conference and event organisers to offer something that is truly ‘out of this world’ to their guests.
The artwork will be suspended from about in Millennium Point’s impressive atrium, slowly revolving and be accompanied by a specially created composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones. Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface*, the artwork provides the opportunity to see our planer, floating in three dimensions. By standing 211m away from the artwork, you will be able to see the Earth as it appears from the Moon.
During its installation at Millennium Point, Gaia will offer a unique piece suspended above your guests as they enjoy a drinks reception, gala dinner or to have the opportunity to gaze at this unique piece whilst attending a conference.
Victoria Webb, Sales Manager, Millennium Point has been talking to clients about the installation commented: “The arrival of Luke Jerram’s internationally touring earth artwork provides our event clients with a unique opportunity to enhance their events in a truly unique way. Gaia provides visitors with an overwhelming sense of awe for our planet – providing a unique hook to attract attendees as well a shared experience through which they can connect.
We are very proud to be hosting the installation. It showcases the sheer flexibility and versatility our venue can offer, alongside other benefits including the knowledge that our commercial profits fund initiatives that support the growth of STEM education in the West Midlands.”
